Learn how to use isolations and directional changes to make a dramatic beginning and a stunning ending to your routine. Never be afraid of complex and complicated drum solos again! Add some new elements that will take your audience by surprise! Tame the drum solo!

 Super Shimmies & Captivating Combinations!
This workshop will focus shimmies combined with hip work, locks, pops and accents. Learn to use muscular control to get the most bang for your buck. Learn also to relax the body and dance without strain. Transitions include patterns, weight balance and level changes.

Naimah began exploring the art of bellydance in 1999 with some background knowledge in ballet, modern, hip hop, and african dance. Her bellydance career began with Cabaret but after intensive study has found her niche in the art of Tribal Fusion bellydance, blending American Tribal Style bellydance with classical indian, hip hop, flamenco and a little dash of cabaret. Naimah is also known for her mysterious, gothic infused, fluid movements . She has been referred to as a mechanical snake and a man eating plant.

  • Dr. Sunyatta Amen is a highly sought after Naturopathic Physician, Womb Yoga, Belly Dance and Sexual Tai Chi expert who has assisted thousands of women heal without surgeries/drugs.  Dr. Sunyatta hails from a Jamaican/Cuban family of traditional healers, her dynamic, humorous and engaging style draws participants from many walks of life leaving them invigorated and ready for more.

Dr. Sunyatta is the host of Bush Medicine Radio Program and the health consultant for the Micheal Baisden Show and Liquid Magazine. She has been featured in the Washington Post, London Times, Heart & Soul, Vibe, Honey, Unfold Magazines. She has appeared on the the Montel Williams Show, Baisden After Dark and FOX TV.  

She is the executive director of the Belly Dancers of Color Association (BOCA), the non-profit organization whose mission is to bring attention and awareness to the roots of Belly Dance and unite people around the world in this ancient and healing art form.

Of Moroccan ancestry, she was drawn to become an original member of Jamila Salimpour's groundbreakng 'Bal Anat' troupe in the 1970's.
 
Rossah is an incredible dancer, a superlative teacher, inspirational choreographer, and one of those rare spirits that inhabit our world with quiet grace and mastery.

Rossah has studied with the world's leading Oriental performers and instructors, here and abroad.  She has been teaching and performing North African folkloric style and Danse Orientale for over 35 years.

    Learn the real deal on American Tribal Style from a member of the troupe that started it all! Rossah is famous for her original tribal style choreography.This workshop offers you a 3-minute routine that is presented for troupe work or easily tailored to a solo performance.  Emphasis on eastern scale and how to interpret the music, hip articulation, and presentation.  Rossah also introduces how steps works in the routine, repeating the section of the routine raising the cardio level.  Teaches timing, centers your soul, excellent group number. Choreography handout included with class!

    In a colorful headress with pom poms, the dancers execute hip movements and shoulder shimmies while using their hands to swing their dress. Hold the water jug, the dancer pretends to collect and share water.
     
    Learn this fun and delightful ancient dance that has been passed down from generation to generation. 

     
     
    Guedra!  The Trance Dance of Morocco
     
    guedra3Out of southern Morocco comes the exotic Guedra! Guedra is the name of the blessing ceremony
    , the dancer and also the name of this large drum used to beat the rhythms of the dance. Guedra dancers make mesmerizing movements with the arms while swaying their heads from left to right. It's a tuareg blessing dance done on the knees where the dancers get in a trance.

    Typical for this dance are the flicking & flashing movements of the hands which The hands are decorated with beautiful henna. The whole body moves more and more as the villagers clap more fervently and in turn the dancer becomes more passionate within the blessing ritual.     Tunisian Jug Dance

    and then make a dance of it with hips TWISTING!

    This dance is done with dancing mainly on the balls of the feet, quick sharp hip accents on the left hip, balancing a jug or calabash on the head or shoulder.

    Classical Indian Dance, Face & Hands! Njideka 

     Bharata Natyam is one of the most ancient classical dance styles dating back to over 4,000 years old. The aspect of this dance is to convey stories to the audience of the ancient Goddess and Gods of India. 

    Elements of this dance will be offered in classes that can be taken independently:

     Classical Indian Facial Expressions, Neck Moves & Dramatic Eyes

    Njideka began her study of classical Indian Dance at the age of nine. She has studied with Padmarani Rasiah and also Padmarani Rasiah's teachers whom are world renowned dancers, the Dhananjayn's and Adar K Lakshman. 

    At the age of 16 she had her Arrangetram (graduation).  Considered a big occasion in the world of classical Indian dance, it is when a teacher feels it necessary for a student to perform an elaborate and challenging performance.

     "My goal in instructing classical Indian dance is to convey and help others express the incredibly beautiful and intricate movements of the Goddess within us."
